TURIN, Italy – Official: midfielder Weston McKennie has the first American player in Juventus.
The nine-time A-series backup champion released footage of McKennie’s arrival in Turin on Thursday, a striker on German club Schalke’s long-awaited loan.
Late on Saturday, Juventus showed the move and said the American “enjoy a vanquished birthday provides a move to the Bianconeri.” Friday McKennie’s birthday 22.
He added: “Juventus Football Club announces that an agreement has been concluded with FC GelsenkirchenSchalke for the temporary acquisition, until 30 June 2021, of the registration rights of player Weston McKennie for a sum of 4.5 million euros (5.35 million dollars)”.
McKennie can play in any of the midfield positions, making it a flexible choice for Juventus’ new coach Andrea Pirlo. McKennie played football while spending part of his training years in Germany.
Other U.S.-born Players in Serie A come with Alexi Lalas, Giuseppe Rossi, Michael Bradley and Oguchi Onyewu.
