Dinners at a Wetherspoons pub in Cornwall said they felt embarrassed after ketchup stocks ran out on the Eat Out to Help Out show.
According to The Sun, other diners at Coinage Hall in Helston had to do without the sauce that was “in greatest demand” at the pub chain chaired by Tim Martin of Devon.
The brown sauce and mustard were also said to be low.
Several other Wetherspoons pubs have experienced the same challenge with the Eat Out to Help Out program that allowed other people to eat half-price food on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in August.
The program was launched through Chancellor Rishi Sunak as a component of efforts to help the economy that has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to The Sun, a Quince Hall diner said: “I went to the table for condiments and there were none left.
“I felt robbed. Our fish and chips ruined.”
A JD Wetherspoon spokesperson said: “We apologize to customers. We are rushing our suppliers to factor as temporarily as possible.”
A spokesman for Heinz, which ships its ketchup to JD Wetherspoon, said flooding at his factory is also a component of the problem.
“Unfortunately, there has been flooding in our at Telford,” the spokesman said.
“The news is that all of our lines are back online and we are working hard to get back to full supply.”
