NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has already given a spark to Manchester United’s new signing Leny Yoro.
The teenage defender finalised a £58m move to Old Trafford on Thursday after snubbing Real Madrid by joining the Premier League club.
Yoro, 18, is one of Europe’s most talented clients and also attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool before landing a United player.
The former Lille defender, included in the Ligue 1 squad for the 2023-24 season, has signed a five-year contract with Manchester United, plus a further 12-month contract.
The Premier League’s wonderful Henry worked with Yoro with the France U21 national team and made him debut in September when he was just 17 years old.
Speaking about Yoro’s future in March, Henry said, “We talked about Leny. He has made an exemplary start to his career. Settling in Lille as you do. . .
“He has young reactions and that is absolutely normal. It comes slowly, we make mistakes, and we are seldom embarrassed.
“[But] it helps keep betting game after game, it starts quite a bit and it’s a lot. Actually, it’s smart for him. He’s a professional, he’s a well-educated, well-educated guy.
“I like it. She plays well. Then there are things to perfect, but that is absolutely normal. Frankly, it is actually a more than positive progression.
Yoro becomes Manchester United’s summer signing after Joshua Zirkzee, who recently left Bologna to join the Red Devils.
“Leny is one of the most exciting young defenders in world football; he has all the attributes needed for a top centre-back,” said United sporting director Dan Ashworth.
Yoro, meanwhile, said of his move to Old Trafford: “Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an honour.
“Since my first conversations with the club, they have set out a transparent plan on how I can grow in Manchester as part of this exciting project, and they have shown a lot of affection towards me and my family.
“I know the history of Manchester United’s young players and I believe this may be the best position to succeed in my future and realise my ambitions with my new teammates. I can’t wait to start.
Yoro hopes to start alongside Lisandro Martínez next season after Raphael Varane left Manchester United at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
