No fewer than seven players made it to Stamford Bridge this summer, but no new sign has come from Chelsea with the hype from Kai Havertz. The Blues don’t want the Germans. There was no apparent position for him on Frank Lampard’s team, however Havertz was widely known as a generational skill and thus Chelsea felt they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to point him out while they could.
At £ 71m, Havertz’s move is one of the most expensive in club history, but while most of Chelsea’s other summer additions, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy , the 21-year-old, discovered It is difficult to adapt to his new environment.
Lampard, however, turned off Havertz’s offensive instincts by betting him as a true central midfielder. This is largely due to the fact that there is no other apparent position for him in the Chelsea squad and leaving him on the bench would be a waste. Havertz has found himself in a position that does not suit him.
There is no obvious position for him in the top three, with Lampard switching between Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud, Christian Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech on attack. Havertz played on the right side of Leverkusen’s attack and even in the middle as a kind of “False Nine” in the last component of last season. Lampard, however, doesn’t seem to like Havertz as a forward.
In midfield, Lampard favored a 3-way midfielder. N’Golo Kante and Mason Mount took two of the three positions and Havertz placed third. This forces you to be more of a box-to-box operator than you are comfortable with. Havertz has disappeared in games. The criticisms reached him here.
“These days there will be complaints from each and every player from each and every club losing a game,” Lampard said after the Premier League loss to Wolves, which disappointed Havertz.
“We have patience with Havertz in one aspect of Chelsea because it is a high level skill that has entered this league. He can play in any position on top 3 and played on the right countless times before betting on Chelsea.
“But you have to be patient, especially with any young player betting on the speed of the Premier League. Criticists [should] just wait and give a young player time. Be the player who will be Kai Havertz.
At just 21 years old, Havertz still has plenty of time to grow and develop. In fact, the German is not the first player to have a hard time adjusting to the peculiarities of the Premier League at first. Switching to a new team to play with a new coach also brings a lot of changes. It is too early to pass judgment on the £ 71 million man.
More concerning, however, is Chelsea’s apparent lack of a plan for Havertz. They signed it because they could, not because he needed it. It is never a forged foundation for a movement of such magnitude. Indeed, Havertz has the knack for succeeding at Stamford Bridge, but his new club has yet to prove it is the right position for the German to take the next step.
