Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says his Manchester United players will have to turn out to have “learned lessons” by pursuing a long winning streak.

After a poor start to the season, United achieved their fourth consecutive victory in all competitions and their third consecutive Premier League victory.

Solskajer takes his newly ninth United team to Southampton, fifth, on Sunday,

“Of course we need this race to continue, but we know how successful Southampton has had recently or recently, or in the last year,” Solskjaer said.

“However, we have a smart track record abroad and we’ve been there since early January, when we had inputs and exits, transfers, I think it was a great turning point for us.

“Since then, the table has risen and, depending on how many games you come back, I think we got that consistency.

“We know it’s a wonderful challenge and smart control for the team now, to see if we’ve learned our classes from the games we played against them last season.

United tied up at home and away with the Saints last season and will not feature Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay this weekend, none of whom have gone to training.

“Scott and Paul didn’t exercise this morning, they weren’t on the lawn, so it’s very unlikely for the weekend,” Solskjaer said.

“Marcus [Rashford], Victor [Lindelof], Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] went through the session, Luke [Shaw] just rehabilitated, so not yet with the team.
