What The Papers Say – 4 August

Tuesday’s Daily Mail says Everton are among a number of clubs alerted by news Crystal Palace are prepared to sell winger Wilfried Zaha for £30m.

The report claims Palace have received “no concrete offers” for Zaha but are primed for bids from Chelsea and Manchester United, while Everton are said to “retain an interest” following links with the Ivorian 12 months ago.

Additionally, the Mail reckons Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich are “known to be monitoring Zaha’s situation”.

Several outlets last week mooted a possible Everton swoop for Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon.

Now Sky Sports suggests Carlo Ancelotti will have competition from former club Chelsea for Reguilon, who spent 2019/20 on loan with La Liga rivals Sevilla.

Chelsea are supposedly prioritising the acquisition of a left-back for the next stage of their summer rebuild and, according to Sky Sports, “are expected to trump Everton’s £18m bid for Reguilon in the coming days”.

Serbian newspaper Republika features quotes from former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, who has apparently hinted at a potential Goodison Park move following the end of his contract with Zenit Saint Petersburg in Russia.

“I will probably continue my career at Everton,” said Ivanovic, who won the first of his three Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge under Ancelotti a decade ago.

“I received a good offer from them. I will see how things will turn out.”

Red Star Belgrade in Ivanovic’s Serbian homeland have also been touted as a possible destination but general manager Zvezdan Terzic said: “I really appreciate Ivanovic but we can hardly afford such a player. That story is not realistic.”

The Gabriel Magalhaes saga rumbles on, meanwhile, with L’Equipe in France reporting Manchester United want to take the centre-half from Ligue 1 Lille.

Magalhaes, 22, has been serially touted as a potential target for Everton manager Ancelotti.

But the French publication reckons United have edged in front of Everton and Napoli in pursuit of Magalhaes and an offer of €27m plus €2m add-ons could see the player sign at Old Trafford “in the next few days”.
