Liverpool won the Premier League name in an extended 2019–20 season that just ended at the end of July due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the champions will begin defending their name in a few weeks. Football enthusiasts probably wouldn’t have to wait for off-season breaks in 2020, as we’re just a week away from the FA Community Shield game, the classic that starts a new season.
The first day of the 2020-21 Premier League calendar is scheduled for Saturday, September 12. Manchester United and Manchester City will play the first weekend of the season as they have had an extended break after betting in European tournaments this summer.
The FA Cup winner Arsenal will face Premier League champion Liverpool at the FA Community Shield Fit on 29 August.
Other primary European leagues will open in September. The League begins on 12 September and the German Bundesliga on 18 August.
New for 2020-2021:
Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich City have been relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2019–20 season. Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham have been promoted to the Premier League for 2020-2021.
