Inter hopes to have a new reserve team in time for the start of the 2025-26 season, but first wants to triumph over a handful of “structural” problems, according to club president Beppe Marotta.
Currently, three Serie A have the B competing at Serie C level, namely Juventus Next Gen, presented as Juventus U23 in 2018, and Atalanta U23, presented before the 2023-24 season, as well as the most recent addition from Milan. Futuro, who will play his first season in Serie C in 2024-25.
The U23 configurations are meant to serve as the final springboard between the academy’s Spring phase and the first-team squads.
Inter expect the fourth Italian club to launch a new under-23 squad, but will have to wait until next summer to see if the pieces fit.
Speaking about the U-23 teams, Inter president Marotta said: “The second team is a tool that the federal formula made available. I was at Juventus when the B team was launched.
“At Inter we have to make sure that the assignment can take off, but we have some structural deficiencies. We will work with the new owners to cover them and then we hope to be able to release them after all.
