Footballers are proud of their achievements and rightly so.
So when FIFA’s official Twitter account stated that Cristiano Ronaldo was the only player to win league titles in England, Spain and Italy, you can believe that his Juventus teammate Danilo was a little offended.
After Ronaldo scored in Juve’s 2-0 win over Sampdoria last week to secure a ninth consecutive Scudetto, the FIFA social media leader to show his knowledge.
Danilo responded to FIFA by the number of titles won through Cristiano Ronaldo
The FIFA Twitter account posted that Ronaldo is the only player to win league titles in Spain, England and Italy following Juventus’ victory over Sampdoria last week.
Danilo replied to the false claim, which has since been deleted, with a set of thinking emojis
The tweet read: ”10 goals in 10 games since the resumption of @SerieA_EN have helped the league champions @Cristiano in England, Spain and Italy. ”
So far so good. But then they continued: “No other player has won all three leagues once. The country doesn’t matter when you come from the planet.
Just not well, Danilo did the same hat-trick last week and the Brazilian side responded with a number of considered emojis.
FIFA temporarily deleted the original tweet.
Ronaldo has won the Premier League name with Manchester United three times
Danilo, 29, has back-to-back La Liga and Premier League trophies at Manchester City
Danilo won the League with Real Madrid in 2016-17, then back-to-back Premier League titles with Manchester City in 2017-18 and 2018-19, before scoring 4 in the rebound by winning Serie A with Juventus this season.
It is true that Ronaldo has won each of those leagues several times, and played a more prominent role, but Danilo had the right to report the error.
There is no doubt that Danilo also says that he has two Portuguese medals in the Primeira Liga in his time at Porto.
That would put him in an elite band of footballers who have won the league in four or more different countries and we celebrate them here.
