Many of the biggest players in world football will travel to the United States this summer for the new FIFA Club World Cup.
Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City are just a few of the 32 teams, but there are some notable omissions.
One of them is the Spaniard from FC Barcelona, who will not cross the Atlantic.
This has attracted attention, as Barcelona is one of the most successful and influential football clubs when it comes to the functioning of teams on and off the field.
Here, DAZN News explains why Barcelona will not be in this year’s Club World Cup.
As for the European tournament, UEFA has assigned 12 teams, with the last three Champions League winners, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea, automatically qualifying.
The remaining nine places were determined by a qualification formula that took into account the effects of the last two seasons, although there was also a restriction that allowed only two groups per country to participate in the Club World Cup.
This means that Atlético Madrid has been named as the other representative of Spain, Barcelona striker who has enjoyed a lot of good luck in the UEFA Champions League in recent seasons with departures at organizational level in 2022 and 2023.
This year’s Club World Cup kicks off on Saturday, June 14 when Inter Miami takes on Al Ahly FC at Hard Rock Stadium with the final scheduled for Sunday, July 13 at MetLife Stadium.
In total 32 teams will be competing at the Club World Cup with all international federations represented.
Inter Miami also earned a spot in the tournament thanks to the United States hosting.
