Why are FC Barcelona not playing in the Club World Cup?

Many of the biggest groups in world soccer will travel to the United States this summer to attend the new FIFA Club World Cup.

Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City are just a few of the 32 teams, but there are some notable omissions.

One of those is Spain’s FC Barcelona who will not be making the trip across the Atlantic Ocean.

This has raised a number of eyebrows with Barcelona one of football’s most successful and influential clubs when it comes to how teams function on and off the pitch.

Here, DAZN News explains why Barcelona will not participate in this year’s Club World Cup.

As for the European tournament, UEFA has assigned 12 teams, with the last three Champions League winners, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea, automatically qualifying.

The remaining nine places were determined by a qualification formula that took into account the effects of the last two seasons, although there was also a restriction that allowed only two groups per country to participate in the Club World Cup.

This means that Atlético Madrid has been designated as the other representative of Spain, Barcelona striker who has enjoyed a lot of good luck in the UEFA Champions League in recent seasons with departures at organizational level in 2022 and 2023.

This year’s Club World Cup will begin on Saturday, June 14 when Inter Miami takes on Al Ahly FC at Hard Rock Stadium with the final scheduled for Sunday, July 13 at MetLife Stadium.

A total of 32 groups will participate in the Club World Cup, with representation from all foreign federations.

Inter Miami also claimed a spot in the tournament thanks to the United States being the host.
