Atalanta are in a chaotic scenario ahead of their Serie A opener against Lecce, as several first-team players are not considered available for this match for reasons.
Gian Piero Gasperini would possibly have set his sights on replicating last season’s highs for Atalanta this season as well, but before moving down that path he now wants to address an emerging challenge in his team. Fans and experts were surprised to see the official La Dea team list for the Lecce match, with several starting players excluded.
A report from La Gazzetta dello Sport highlights the challenge, as Ademola Lookman, Gianluca Scamacca, El Bilal Touré, Teun Koopmeiners and Sead Kolasinac are the notable absences in the Bergamo-based team’s first match of the season. While Scamacca and Kolasinac are injured, Lookman has asked to be transferred as he needs to make the most of Paris Saint-Germain’s recent interest.
Bilal Touré and Koopmeiners were absent from the team’s last educational consultation before the match and were therefore excluded from the group. Both players were also excluded from the Super Cup match, as they are expected to be at the center of negotiations for possible transfers. Koopmeiners will most likely sign for Juventus and Touré has been linked with Bournemouth.
Only time will tell if Atalanta can reach the same heights as last season, but for now they have a huge task to do to resolve the crisis in their locker room.
