Georginio Wijnaldum has described Rhian Brewster’s finishing ability as “unbelievable”, but insists he is “not impressed” by the Liverpool starlet’s recent flurry of goals.
Brewster scored Liverpool goals in a 2–2 draw with Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday after being substituted in the middle of the moment.
The 20-year-old has already scored 3 goals in two pre-season games, and also discovered it in a 3-0 win over Stuttgart this weekend.
Jurgen Klopp has welcomed England U21 abroad to his team after a successful season at Swansea last season, in which the youngster scored 11 goals in 22 appearances.
Wijnaldum has worked hard with Brewster at Anfield for over 3 years and is not surprised to see him claim a normal place in the first team before the 2020-2021 campaign.
When asked to evaluate the striker’s recent performance, the Dutch midfielder told Liverpool’s official website: “I’m ‘impressed’ because I already know what kind of quality it has.
“We trained together for a few years and he showed also in training that his finishing is unbelievable, so I’m not really impressed!”
The Reds fought after two goals opposed to Salzburg in Austria, with James Milner, Takumi Minamino and Curtis Jones all in action after half-time.
The likes of Ki-Jana Hoever, Marko Grujic and Harvey Elliott were also eliminated within forty-five seconds, and Wijnaldum spoke of the importance of the team’s intensity after the final whistle.
“That’s how it deserves to be. Now that we have the matches, we all know it will be a difficult season with a lot of matches, so a lot of players will play a lot of matches,” he said.
“So if you have a lot of players who can bring quality to the field, that makes it even better for the team. We are pleased that the boys who came here, the young players, made a difference today.
Liverpool will now move on to a final Community Shield meeting with Arsenal on Saturday, and Wijnaldum is pleased with the way the arrangements were developed through its last education camp.
The Reds game creator added, “I think each and every educational camp is smart, I think especially now because we only had a little over two weeks to prepare for the Community Shield.
“It’s smart to have a smart pre-season preparation because it’s necessarily the pre-season for the start of the season.
“It went pretty well, we had to deal with some cases but we also did well, so it’s a smart education camp.”
