MANCHESTER United has given enthusiasts an update on Mason Greenwood’s future.
The 21-year-old striker has played for United since his arrest in January last year.
He was later charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive control, before the charges against him were dropped in February.
Since then, Greenwood has been waiting to learn his fate at United, and the club is keeping quiet about its own internal investigation.

Mason Greenwood will be reinstated at Manchester United next week, The Sun has revealed.
The 21-year-old has been suspended since January following his arrest on charges of rape and sexual assault.
But after an 18-month absence, club officials are now in a position to give him a second chance at Old Trafford.
A final decision will be made within the next 48 hours through United’s lead executive, Richard Arnold.
But the announcement will be delayed until after the Lionesses World Cup final against Spain on Sunday.
A source said: “It has been a long and complicated procedure for everyone involved, but it is coming to an end.
“The internal investigation has ended and Mason will be reinstated at Old Trafford.
“He has made no secret of his desire to get back to doing what he does best.
“He already has the authorization of the players and coach Erik ten Hag. He’s just waiting for the green light.
“The club will present its resolution on Tuesday after the Women’s World Cup final. “
It is not yet clear if Greenwood will return to the first team or be loaned out for one season.
Sources said Greenwood was opposed to moving and United were reluctant to loan him to a Premier League rival.
One option is rehabilitation through United’s under-23s or reserves, another source said.
The club has consulted its English players, Ella Toone and Mary Earps, who are preparing for the most important match of their lives.
The bosses are ready for any distraction before their winner wins the entire match against La Rojas in Sydney.
United said it had conducted “a thorough investigation” into Greenwood’s allegations.
In a statement, the club added: “This is based on a lot of evidence and context that is not in the public domain.
“We have heard from many other people concerned or familiar with the case. “
He said the well-being of his alleged victim is at the forefront of his internal investigation.
But he continued: “For Mason we also have day jobs as an employee, as a young man who has been at the club since the age of seven and as a new father with a partner.
“The research phase of our investigation is now complete and we are in the final stages of making a decision on Mason’s future.
“Contrary to media speculation, this resolution has not yet been adopted and has lately been the subject of intense internal deliberations.
“The duty lies with the executive leader.
“Once taken, the resolution will be communicated and explained to club and external stakeholders.
“This has been a complicated case for everyone associated with Manchester United, and we sense the strong criticism it has raised on the basis of partial evidence in the public domain.
“We ask for patience as we take the final steps in this conscientious process. “
For now, Greenwood, who has been suspended on a total salary of £75,000 a week, continues to work alone.
Follow workouts developed and supervised by United’s training team, but taught through private running shoes on a £85-a-year public pitch.
United kicked off their new Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Wolves on Monday, with some fans protesting their imminent return.
But the club, along with his teammates, coaches and coach, is keen for the saga to come to an end.
If reinstated, it would mark a remarkable comeback for a player who was once valued at around £50 million and one of European football’s most prominent young talents.
After his arrest, enthusiasts dressed in reproduction T-shirts with his name on them were told they could exchange them for loose jerseys and the club got rid of all player-related products from its online page and megastore.
Nike, which signed an initial deal with the player in 2020, also ended its multimillion-dollar sponsorship deal with Greenwood, while EA Sports pulled the player from its iconic FIFA 22 video game.
His last match was on 22 January 2022, in a Premier League clash against West Ham, which United won 1–0.
The English ace filed charges in October last year and will stand trial in November this year.
But prosecutors dropped the case on Feb. 2 after his alleged victim and a dozen witnesses refused to cooperate.
Greenwood hoped this would lead to him returning to Old Trafford, but told him he would have to keep waiting until the internal investigation was carried out.
Mason Greenwood has made 129 appearances for Manchester United, his first since his debut in 2018.
He played once for England, in an away win in September 2020 against Iceland.
Gareth Southgate sent Greenwood home after he and Phil Foden breached quarantine rules at their hotel.
