LONDON (AP) – Brazilian striker Willian took advantage of his birthday to announce that “the time has come” to leave Chelsea.
Willian is off contract after a seven-year stint at Stamford Bridge amid repeated media reports of a loss to Arsenal in London.
“The time has come. I will miss my teammates,” he wrote in an open letter to Chelsea enthusiasts posted on Twitter on Sunday.
Willian has won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a League Cup and the Europa League with Chelsea and would leave with his head held high.
He then added: “Thank you for all @chelseafc and Chelsea !!! enthusiasts.
