Wolfsburg Mbabu outside Europa League after virus

WOLFSBURG, Germany (AP) – Wolfsburg defender Kevin Mbabu will miss his team’s last Europa League match against Shakhtar Donetsk after a coronavirus positive last month, the club announced on Monday.

Wolfsburg coach Oliver Glasner said the Swiss defender would “certainly” not be with the team from the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, to play for Shakhtar on Wednesday. He didn’t work out with the team, ” said Glasner.

Wolfsburg said on July 25 that Mbabu had tested positive and was away at home. He had no symptoms, the club said at the time.

The right-back has played 20 games for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga this season, adding 90 minutes in all matches after the league resumed in May amid the pandemic.

The Europa League restarts on Wednesday after a stopover of almost five months. The second leg of the last 16 matches will be played at the original venues.

In Germany, two matches will be played in which the first leg was not played before the suspension of the season – Inter Milan against Getafe and Roma against Sevilla-

From the quarter-finals, all matches will be played in a tournament in Germany.
