Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club was originally founded as “St. John’s”. Luke’s FC “through two scholars from St. John’s Sc. Two years later, they merged with the football branch of a local cricket club called Blakenhall Wanderers, hence the name Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The club first played in the FA Cup in 1884 and joined the Football League as a founding member in 1888. They finished third that season and also reached the FA Cup final. It was also the year they settled in Molineux, which remains their homeland to this day. day.

Wolves won their first FA Cup in 1893, beating Everton 1–0 in the final. While in the Second Division in 1908, they managed to win the FA Cup again, this time beating Newcastle United.

Fast forward to the 1950s, this is the most successful era in the club’s long history. Under the control of former player and now coach Stan Cullis, the club won its first three departmental titles, in 1954, 1958 and 1959. They also added their fourth and last to date, the FA Cup in 1959/60. They were one of the first English groups to compete in the European Cup (now Champions League). Although they never tasted European glory, they reached the UEFA Cup final in 1972. In this era they won the League Cup twice, in 1974 and 1980.

The 1980s ushered in a fashionable era of top-down apartments. They went down to apartment 4 in the 80s, but since then they have more commonly a team of departments one and two. Since 2023, they have been in the Premier League since 2018.

A fun fact about the Wolves is that legendary rock singer Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin is a big fan and honorary vice president of the club. The canopy of Plant’s 1988 solo album features wolf graphics that resemble the Wolverhampton coat of arms.
