WorkSafeBC is investigating after a construction crane toppled atop a highrise under construction in Burnaby’s Brentwood area.
WorkSafe said it became aware of the incident Thursday afternoon.
Its officials responded to the scene at 5:30 p. m. on Thursday and issued stop-use orders for the tower crane and derrick, according to WorkSafe.
“The goal of our investigation is to identify the cause of the incident, adding any contributing factors, to prevent incidents from occurring in the future,” Ashley Gregerson, government and media relations advisor, said in an emailed statement.
Burnaby RCMP closed the Lougheed Freeway in either direction between Madison Avenue and Gilmore Avenue Friday afternoon in connection with the incident.
Parts of a crane can be seen hanging from the top of a skyscraper below the structure at the corner of Lougheed and Gilmore.
The skyscraper is owned by developer Onni Group.
