NEW YORK (AP) – The last time the New York Yankees lost eight games in a row in another millennium.
One game a day was good for them on Saturday.
Clint Frazier scored the winning race in the Wild Area of Dellin Betances in the back of the ninth inning, and the Yankees have moved away from their longest streak in a quarter of a century with a 2–1 win over the New York Mets in Crosstown..
“He’s tall. It’s definitely a blunt victory. It’s not the prettiest win, but we needed this bad one,” said All-Star boxer DJ LeMahieu, reinstated from the disabled list before the match. It was a little complicated there.
The Mets had won three in a row and six out of eight, a double sweep on Friday at Yankee Stadium.Previously, the Yankees had also been swept away in a doubles game Wednesday in Atlanta.
“Really to have a win and come here and listen to music,” manager Aaron Boone said.”Just a very war and there were winning at-bats at the end.
Wilson Ramos greeted reliever Adam Ottavino with a house run tied for eighth off-screen tied on the left field foul post. The much-acclaimed Yankee bullpen has hit the tops in all three games in this Subway series.
Frazier tied ninth in Betances (0-1), four-time All-Star with the Yankees before signing with the Mets in the final off-season.Frazier finished third with a comfortable bachelor through Jordy Mercer, lifting up backup catcher Erik Kratz with a cross-checkout.
“I felt like I had nothing today,” Betances said.
Kratz made a drinking square on a 0-1 pitch, then withdrew his bat when Betances’ fastball passed over Ramos’ glove.Frazier broke third place on the field, but scored smoothly when the ball went backstop.
“I did it myself, ” said Kratz, “Today I didn’t touch too much land.We have to get the race one way or another.”
Aroldis Chapman (1-1) pitched a ninth scoreless, recovering from a failed save and a Friday night loss when he knocked down emerging hitter Amed Rosario at the end of the game.
Happ kept the Mets on 3 hits in seven 1/3 blank innings, fitting the Yankees’ first starter to triumph in the eighth this season. The 37-year-old left-hander took out five and failed to make it in his stingy exit in a row.
Left fielder Brett Gardner stole more bases from J.D.Davis with a remarkable catch to start the seventh. With right-handed Ramos in eighth place, Happ got rid of him after 90 pitches.
“I know you’ve been under pressure the last few weeks,” Voit said.”We needed it.”
It’s only the fourth start of the season and the time since August 5 for Happ, who recently talked about the shortage of assignments and seemed to think it might be similar to his $17 million acquisition option for next season.
“I feel like I’ve responded to some of the things I might have meant and I’m going to leave that there,” Happ said.”I’m just going to do it in the season.”
Prior to the game, general manager Brian Cashman said Happ had had problems last year and is at the end of the rotation, so the resolution was purely based on looking to win games and navigate overtime.
“Listen, it’s no secret what’s happened this year,” Boone said.”With the long rest, his concentration has never changed.”
Voit launched his 12th home race in the fourth field of Mets starter Robert Gsellman and the Yankees then pulled out two runners.
