Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told the club official that Rhian Brewster “needs to get more involved.”
Brewster scored twice for Liverpool in their pre-season friendly against Red Bull Salzburg yesterday, to generate calls to secure a first-team spot at Anfield next season.
Klopp has so far abstained from Brewster regularly, but is now pushing for a spot in the Liverpool team.
The young man enjoyed a glorious loan with Swansea City last season, and his start in the preseason was very impressive.
But Klopp thinks the young man can get better.
“Rhian is a boy and he is,” he says.
“You can be informed a lot, but you’re an herbal goalscorer, that’s what it is.”
“You have to be more worried in the game when you’re on the field, but I have to say that at the decisive moments it’s 100 percent out there.
“I like him and he’s a glorious guy, so that’s good. If you score 3 goals in two games, it’s not a bad number and it doesn’t matter.”
The Daily Mirror has reported that a handful of Premier League clubs must cede Brewster to Liverpool, but it is unclear whether it will be available.
If Brewster continues to score in the preseason, Klopp may keep him at Anfield, and can also take Divock Origi’s position as the first understudy for the Liverpool attack.
Origi has demonstrated an intelligent ability to score goals for Liverpool, but there is a sense that he can improve.
And with Brewster pressing him hard now, the Belgian first team’s position is under pressure.
