Located in Maksimir, the capital’s sprawling urban park, Zagreb Zoo is giant enough to house more than 7,000 animals from around the world. Founded in 1925, with renovations as recent as 2016, this heritage charm becomes spacious as soon as you enter. Hallways surround sprawling enclosures.
While there is a recommended travel direction, shown on this map, the trails are well-marked so you can locate your favorites first. The zoo is currently in the process of creating a new hut-like enclosure for gray wolves, one of several research and preservation programs: the recent welcome to the arrival of a king cobra and a Komodo dragon is associated with a task involving the European Union.
