Zenit St Petersburg beat Khimki 1-0 to win the Russian Cup on Saturday, but their field celebrations took a tricky turn when Captain Branislav Ivanovic dropped the trophy and broke his glass lid.

Artem Dzyuba scored a penalty in the 84th minute to see Khimki, as Zenit finished the league and cup double for the first time since 2010.

As the players took the podium under a swirl of confetti, former Chelsea defender Ivanovic let the cup slip away and watch his teammates pick up glass fragments strewn across the field.

Then he tweeted a little apology.

“All right, everyone heard that we controlled to drop and break the Russian Cup, and we’d like to apologize!”

Zenit was crowned champion of Russia this month for the moment consecutive season, while the Moscow-based Khimki will play in the next elite after securing a promotion.
